Parts Work with Ego State Therapy
You may have heard of or experienced an inner critic voice that causes you to second guess yourself, or perhaps experienced an inner child that connects you to old intense feelings.
Ego State Therapy
Ego State Therapy is a parts work model that was developed by John and Helen Watkins. If you have ever thought of different “parts” of yourself; for example: a parent part, a part that shows up to work and is pleasant, a tough part that needs to deal with real-life threats, or a child-like part that feels hurt when reminded of past wounds; these “parts” might be thought of as ego states in this model. Ego state therapy can help us to gain more understanding and resolve conflicts within ourselves. It is also a helpful approach when working with complex trauma, dissociation and early childhood trauma.
Clinical Hypnosis
Building Resilience and Coping Skills: Hypnosis can be used to strengthen positive ego states, promoting qualities such as resilience, self-confidence, and coping skills. This can complement ego states therapy by helping individuals build a more robust internal support system.
Hypnosis can create an environment in which communication with different ego states becomes more natural. The therapist, using hypnotic techniques, can guide the individual to establish a dialogue with various parts, helping them express their needs, concerns, or emotions.
